Courtney Barton is a strong-willed and unshakeable family lawyer, conflict resolution specialist and the founder of Barton Family Lawyers.

For the last fourteen years, Courtney has been working tirelessly to assist her clients to achieve certainty and a fresh start following separation.
Courtney has successfully supported thousands of people through their separation journey. Courtney strives to deliver the best practical outcome to each of her clients, that makes a positive difference to their lives.
APPROACH
Courtney has a feisty spirit and a never give up attitude. In the court room, she is resilient, positive and calm. This is because she doesn’t just focus on the law, but the qualities that make a good lawyer, and she employs strategy in order to achieve the outcome that her client wants.
Courtney listens to her clients’, offers empathy and understanding and delivers on the promises she makes.
Courtney makes what can be an overwhelming process for her clients, straight forward and simple, with a step-by-step Plan tailored to each individual client, to get them from where they are to where they want to be.
Courtney’s process in order to deliver the best practical outcome to each of her clients is:
- She will listen to your story and ask what is important to you;
- She will customise an in-depth strategic plan in order to achieve your goals;
- She will continuously involve you in the process and keep the communication lines open;
- She will encourage you to pick your battles and look at the pros and cons of proceeding down each legal pathway;
- She will discourage you from getting distracted by the ‘noise’ that the other party is making and keep you focused on the long-term goal; and
- She will give you certainty and transparency of your legal fees, for each step along the way.
Courtney understands from her many years of experience as a family lawyer and a mediator, that the pathway to resolving a conflict is by understanding and influencing people’s emotions, because emotions drive decision making.
Courtney’s view is that the best way to influence the other party to agree to the outcome you want is by choosing wisely which battles to fight, and by taking a strategic, and where appropriate, a collaborative approach, to minimise conflict.
Courtney will provide you with sensible, strategic and practical legal advice, that is solution focused, to empower you to achieve a resolution that you have control over, as quickly and cost effectively as possible, so that you can move on with your life.
